Definition

  • Collecting information on objects or phenomena without physical contact with them, using remote sensors on satellites and aircraft (planes, drones, weather balloons). Often used to gather information on the Earth’s surface, atmosphere and oceans. For example, damage assessment after an earthquake or forest fires. The technique is also used for military, commercial, economic and other applications.
